Typically, training is 4-5 weeks, however, each dog is different, and training will be tailored to each dog’s needs and abilities. Basic Obedience training teaches your pup to pay attention to commands and listen in a distracted environment. Basic Gun Dog starts with the basic obedience training to establish a baseline training foundation. During Basic level training dogs run single marks and short distance double marks while delivering to hand. This will give your dog the confidence in/and around different types of hunting grounds and water scenarios. Dogs will learn double and triple marks on land and water as well as other complicated obedience tasks required for a gun dog. The biggest difference with this level is going to be learning tasks such as casting, blind retrieves, honoring other hunting dogs, and staying on task with multiple distractions. He started handling guns and skeet shooting with his parents at the age of 6. At age 10, he started waterfowl hunting on the Eastern Shore and by age 12, he began calling. He moved to Virginia at the age of 15 but never strayed far from hunting. His first hunting dog was a yellow lab named Sugar which he trained with the help of other trainers. Upon graduating from high school, he received an associate degree from Wake Tech Community College in Technical Engineering. He went on to work for John Deere as a certified Deere mechanic. All his adventures continuously lead him back to hunting, calling, and working with dogs. Eventually all these stages in his life transpired into a passion for dog training. No, we don’t train the dogs to retrieve beer, although that would be cool. The name came from the Hunt Test rules. In a hunt test regulation, it states that no alcohol shall be consumed while dogs are running, and test are active. Each dog has full time access to water and beds to stay comfortable while indoors with heat and air conditioning. There is plenty of room for your companion to be able to run and play with two, turf lined, airing pens to keep males and females separated. The facility is located on a beautiful 5 acre lot in Stafford County not far from highway 17 and Interstate 95.
